CDMX on the list of 100 best cities to live

The CDMX (Mexico City) has everything it needs to continue climbing in the list of the world’s top 100 cities.

If you were a foreigner, imagining CDMX would be a complex, perhaps impossible task. In every direction, in every neighborhood, in every district, you can find something special and distinctive. Even between one neighborhood and another, you can recognize differences, essences, scents, and above all, a lot of diversity. That’s how challenging it is to describe why CDMX is among the best cities in the world to live, work, invest, and visit.

Even for us, lifelong inhabitants of CDMX, it is difficult to describe, and sometimes even accept, that CDMX is listed alongside cities we dream of as wonderful, like London, Dubai, or Tokyo.

But it’s time for us to start accepting it every day, because whether we believe it or not, this dignifies us. It’s not the government, not the neighbor with multiple mental complexities, nor the conspiracy theorist who put CDMX in the 71st place; it is a prestigious and recognized foreign institution that included it.

In fact, they describe it as “The megalopolis of Latin America with crowds that can take a lifetime to unravel.” The largest city in North America is also one of its oldest urban centers.

We must remember that CDMX was founded as Tenochtitlán by the Aztecs in 1325, 260 years before the Spanish invasion. The layers of struggle, beauty, and triumph of Mexico City have been immortalized by its citizens like few other places on the continent.

In recent years, CDMX has been trying to change the city’s image, and it has succeeded by renovating public spaces, creating design hotels, and implementing various cultural investment strategies. Not to mention, we have a great culinary scene, and we are one of the most intriguing and deeply complex cities on the planet.

List of World’s Best Cities

CDMX occupies the 71st position in the list of The World’s Best Cities worldwide and climbs a few places each year. In this ranking by Resonance Consultancy, CDMX is one of the top 100 cities to live, work, invest, and visit. The analysis by this institution is based on cities with over one million people and takes into account their attractiveness for tourism, life, and business.

Additionally, we must remember that CDMX has UNESCO World Heritage sites, such as the Casa Luis Barragán, many neighborhoods to stroll through, and various places of interest, monuments, and hundreds of museums. We are far from being a city like London, which tops the ranking, but also far from being a city like Damascus in Syria.

Furthermore, Mexico City has over 20 million inhabitants. It has much to change, but it also has a lot to offer in terms of tourist attractions, representative neighborhoods, architectural styles, and unique gastronomy. In fact, the city boasts restaurants that top the lists of the world’s best places to eat due to its complex cuisine and many places to try local food. Undoubtedly, it is one of the best cities to enjoy traditional food.

So, we should be proud to live in CDMX, a culturally rich metropolis, with a fascinating gastronomic scene, many cultural and historical experiences, and above all, we are a restless community with a deep desire to make CDMX reach the number one spot in all possible lists.
