Mexico City will be filled with tradition and colors this Day of the Dead in 2023.

The traditions of the Day of the Dead in Mexico are an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, as declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for several years, so every year it is not only a national celebration but a global one.

The Day of the Dead Parade and the Second Festival of Offerings and Floral Arrangements in the Historic Center are scheduled for the beginning of November.
 

Day of the Dead 2023: Mega Catrina Procession

This event aims to promote and preserve the traditions of the Day of the Dead. Various thematic contingents participate, such as Carnival Catrinas and even a K-pop one. Professional makeup artists will be doing makeup for this procession. Each makeup starts at $100.

Monumental Alebrijes Parade

Day of the Dead 2023

This parade is not directly related to the Day of the Dead; however, it takes place on nearby dates, so we couldn’t leave it out. It is organized by the Museum of Popular Art, and in 2023, you will be able to see more than 200 alebrijes parading.

After the parade, they will be installed on Paseo de la Reforma as part of a permanent exhibition.

Day of the Dead 2023 Parade

This parade began as part of the filming of one of the many James Bond movies, which was so fascinating that one of its legacies was to turn the fictional parade into a Day of the Dead celebration in Mexico City. This Day of the Dead Parade in 2023 will join other activities.

Remember that these traditions generate a significant economic impact from domestic and international tourism, so it is expected that there will be a 97% hotel occupancy in November. It is a massive event where you can see floats, giant figures, dancers, and much more. It is one of the main events to celebrate the Day of the Dead in Mexico City.

Where: Each year, the route starts at the Estela de Luz, goes through Paseo de la Reforma to the Zócalo Capitalino.
